Start A Small Business?? (part1)

Anybody who has looked at some of the previous posts will know that I’ve been struggling with the direction of my life for a while.
So, about 2 weeks ago now, I came to a big decision, sure, it had been building for some time, but it was then that I took the plunge.

I quit my day job.

I wanted to chase my dream. Not work towards someone else’s, (or spend my day with menial tasks that went mostly unnoticed)

But that next step is a doozy.

At this point I probably should recap a few thing. At heart, first and foremost, I’m an entertainer. And the act creating is almost as important as eating or sleeping to me.
“Life in Heck” has been part of that creative outlet for a couple of years now, but certainly not on any form of professional level. My audience restricted mainly to my co-workers and those on my Email humour lists.
But I’m also a family man, with some pretty hefty responsibilities, I’m a Husband, a father to an Autistic child, sole carer to a dementia suffering grandmother.
And then on top of all of that I was suffering from way to much job stress, though that last one is easy to explain, the job wasn’t my dream, it wasn’t inspiring me, it often seemed pointless, and it was definitely too much work for too little pay.

In short my job required too much of me, it was not giving enough back in return, and it felt like the other areas of my life was suffering as a result.

So what’s the answer?

Well, heres one of those rules for life, a possible key to happiness –
“Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life”

So I quit.

But what next?

And that brings me full circle.
Like I said, that act of entertaining is vital to me, without it I go stir-crazy.
I really do go a little stir-crazy if not regularly given that outlet, so it felt like a natural choice to turn this passion into my job, to build a small business from it.

Sounds simple right?

Well, perhaps, but there were a lot of questions that became immediately obvious in that first week . . . .

(And I’ll talk more on that next post)

But the reason I’m talking about all of this?
Well, theres a good chance you’ve read a “how to” book at some point,
You know, the kind written by some kind of entrepreneur, where at some point they recap their path to success, and they’re inevitably “poor working class boy” – unexplained gap – “successful business man”

So I want to invite you along on this journey, the journey into “unexplained gap” because ultimately it’s not just my journey, it’s OUR journey. So come along, and lets see where it leads,

So till next post,

Thanks,

-K
