Start A Small Business?? (part3)

Yup, I’d come to the realisation I was an ARTIST.
I had images and creations within burning to get out.
Burning.

And I had made the decision to turn this into a career.
(especially since the majority of jobs I’ve had to this point in my life have been a combination of emotionally and spiritually crushing, I needed out, as I’m sure any who are reading this from within a cubicle would understand)

I’d draw pictures for money, and everything would be peachy-keen.

Well, perhaps not, for starters, what kind of pictures, and how would I get them out there?
A Webcomic was a good, stable foundation for this, but could it be successful as an enterprise?

Perhaps? It’s a month into to treating this as something other than a flightful fancy or occasional hobby.

I’ve done a bit of promotion, listed the site at a few relevant webcomic lists.
But, frightening fact #1 is that there are a lot of webcomics out there. A Lot!
(.thewebcomiclist lists approximately 11,000 Webcomics)
That’s okay I guess, I wasn’t naïve enough to expect to be a breakout success, I just wanted to break even.

And, being online is only part of the effort right. Sure print may be shrinking, but it’s not dead. It was time to start to plan for my first collected work. What would it be?
How long would it take to get ready?
This is still an incredibly achievable thing, and I hope to be publishing sometime in late April, (collecting 101 Why/what/when/who did the Chicken gags.)

If you are a publisher and would like to talk about this, please, contact me.

Look for updates here on that, and plenty of previews of funny chicken gags.

And amongst those little slice of effort I’ve made to build the site cute little Paypal donate button, (top left) please, use it, help feed a starving artist.

I’m also very proud to say I’ve kept to the update schedule.
The site is (and will continue to be) updated Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday at approximately 2pm Australian eastern standard, given the time difference.
This means for my friends in the U.S. of A.it will be ready for when you wake up on Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday.

So if you’re one of the 250 unique vistors I had last week (including a guy(gal?) who found my site by googling “pants webcomic”, which I think is kinda cool) don’t forget to check in again soon for more big laughs.

Wait, 250 unique visitors? Well, that’s frightening fact #2. Sure, it’s better than none, especially for something that is really only just beginning, but it’s not a lot.
I figured to break even, on the webcomic alone, would take something like 15,000 visitors a week.

Then, while designing a business card, I had a little brainwave . . . . .

So till next time,

Cheers,
-Kale
