Ironic Marketing

So, I’m back from my holidays.

And, amongst other things, we spent a bit of time swimming at a place called Safety Beach.

Which the locals know by the original name-
Shark Bay.
(Originally named for the unusually high number of Sharks in the waters)

Oddly, Shark Bay wasn’t a popular name with tourists.
And so, to increase tourism the local council Re-branded and Re-named.

If Shark Bay wasn’t well-liked, they’d call it Safety Beach instead.
(Oh, don’t worry, there are still plenty of Sharks, and Australia is the only continent in the world where you are statistically more likely to be eaten by a shark than struck by lightning, so the level of safety is actually very low, but then it’s really about the “illusion” of safety right? Anyway, )

A funny tribute to Australian Irony or Marketing genius?
Either way it’s absurdly funny.

Yep, you can’t make this stuff up.

Cheers,
-Kale
