Preemptive
Victory
Have
you heard what's happening in Zimbabwe?
Okay, it's very likely that as you read this there have been further
developments.
But then this is less a news service a more about crackpot fantasies
of mine, so gather round as I perch on this here soapbox.
Elections have been held, and at the time of writing the votes are
yet to be counted.
But this hasn't stopped the main opposition party claiming victory,
nosiree.
Yes, it seems the "Movement for Democratic Change" has
caught a case of Preemptive Victory.
It's not to hard to see how it began.
The "leader of the free world" George W. Bush did the
same thing following a messy debacle in Florida. By shouting so
loud that the whole country could hear "I Won, I Won!"
it didn't really matter what the eventual count was.
It was wrong, immoral, deceptive conduct. Little more than simple
thievery.
And the people accepted it because he said he won, and a politcian
wouldn't lie would he?
A startling victory of Propaganda over democracy.
And of course there were further syptoms of George's (yes, we're
on first name basis now) case of Preemptive Victory as he landed
on an Aircraft Carrier crying "We Won".
(I guess the Iraqis don't watch the same news stations as us)
Fast forward a few years, watch a 'funny' little debacle in Kenya's
most recent elections, and it seems people have paid attention to
the example of the world's remaining Superpower.
Preemptive Victory it seems is now an accepted polictical strategy.
So,
with US elections on the horizon; I take this oppurtunity to declare
myself the New President of the United States.
(despite not having entered the electoral race, or being an American
citizen, both mere trifles when one sufers from Preemptive Victory)
So Here's
to me, The President,
(PS

It's
perhaps important that I clarify, that -
• I would very much like to see a (peaceful) change of government
in Zimbabwe, and hope that this does lead them to a better tomorrow,
and I do wish good luck to Movement for Democratic Change )
• I really do like Americans, with many of my favourite online
buddies being American citizens.
• I don't like George W Bush's political direction; and don't
consider "Living in a state of knife-edge paranoia" and
political success but rather as a massive failure.
• (I also know that statistically I'm more likely to be eaten
by a shark than attacked by terrorists))
• And that I really do have trouble expressing how much my
heart goes out to the plight of the citizen’s of Zimbabwe,
here’s hoping that they have a brighter future ahead.
